Today, many companies are turning to solutions to increase the efficiency of their logistics processes, including the format cutter. This solution is a real alternative to manual palletizing, and can be integrated into your palletizing robot or layer palletizer.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It couldn’t be simpler. Starting from a reel of a single dimension, e.g. 1200 mm, you choose the format and dimensions of your palletizing layer pad, and the machine takes care of cutting the substrate. If coupled with your automatic palletizing robot, you’ll gain both speed and precision: two important factors in staying competitive in the marketplace.

There are many different types of format cutter. So it’s important to choose yours carefully, as it can play a considerable role in the productivity of your packaging line. In particular, because of anomalies that can bring your entire production line to a standstill.

In the course of your automatic palletizing process, incidents can occur which can lead to line stoppages. This can become a major constraint, especially in the case of recurring incidents, as it affects your company’s productivity and annual sales. Various factors can lead to downtime at the end of your production line: equipment breakdowns, stoppages to reload consumables or change pallet size, or other unforeseen events linked to the palletizer gripper arm’s failure to pick up the layer pad format in the palletizer cell.

1 – IT ELIMINATES SETTING DEFECTS

When using traditional pallet interleavers in production, it’s not uncommon for your robotic palletizer to drop one or more sheets at a time. The drop can accidentally block a sensor, bringing your entire production line to a halt for safety reasons. As a result, all production is paused, and you lose time resolving the problem.

Our EXCALIBUR® machine feeds the robot with one sheet at a time, unlike the traditional method. So it won’t happen to you! Its use eliminates all problems associated with the accidental dropping of interleaving sheets. What’s more, the quality of input is enhanced, and picking faults are eliminated (multiple interleaf picking, incorrect positioning of the interleaf on the pallet, etc.). It works with the anti-slip effect, increasing the stability of your pallets thanks to their unique coating and a sliding angle of around 45°, depending on the paper you use. So your palletizing process will be much more efficient.

2 – OPTIMIZING YOUR DIVIDER MANAGEMENT

The traditional procedure is not very optimal, as it forces the operator to stop the production line: when replacing the pallet of corrugated board or precut layer pads, the operator enters the palletizer cell, bringing the production line to a halt. Compliance with this safety procedure affects productivity. However, with our palletizing system, you can reduce or even eliminate your reel changeover times.

The reel is loaded onto the machine outside the safety cell, and formats are produced from the reel at the desired length. The formats are automatically transported on a conveyor to a marked position. The gripper of the palletizer or palletizing robot picks up the format and inserts it between the rows of products to be palletized. On demand, it unwinds the reel again and cuts the next format.

Operating in stand-alone or line-controlled mode, it produces up to 15 format types from a single reel. DUO and QUATTRO versions can produce 2 half-pallets or 4 quarter-pallets. This frees up more storage space, and reduces the workload on your operators. In fact, one reel of lightweight paper contains up to 10 times as many formats, the equivalent of 5 pallets. This means you no longer need to store pallets of corrugated board of different sizes. The same applies to plastic or wooden interleaving sheets.
