Interview with Rémi CHENARD, Key Account Director – CGP Coating Innovation
On the occasion of the Sustainable Packaging Summit, Rémi shares his vision of sustainable packaging and CGP’s paper-based solutions.
We put the question to Rémi CHENARD, Key Account Director at CGP Coating Innovation.
1- CGP will be attending the Sustainable Packaging Summit with its Key Account team. Why is it important for you to be present at this event?
The Sustainable Packaging Summit has become a must-attend event for understanding the major developments shaping the packaging market and engaging with the stakeholders driving tomorrow’s solutions. It is essential for our Key Account team to stay as close as possible to the expectations of manufacturers, brands, and industry experts.
This event allows us to compare our vision of sustainable packaging with real-world challenges, identify emerging regulatory trends, and gain a deeper understanding of the issues our customers face as they transition to more responsible packaging solutions. It is also an excellent opportunity to share our expertise in innovative paper-based solutions that can replace or reduce plastic while maintaining the expected logistics performance.
2- What are your customers' main expectations today when it comes to sustainable packaging and reducing their environmental impact?
Customer expectations have evolved significantly in recent years. Today, they are looking for solutions that enable them to reduce their environmental footprint in a tangible and measurable way.
Their priorities include reducing the use of virgin plastic, improving packaging recyclability, and decreasing the overall amount of material used. At the same time, they need solutions that are easy to integrate into their production lines, without compromising productivity or significantly increasing costs.
Sustainability is no longer just an environmental objective; it has become a major economic, regulatory, and strategic challenge for businesses.
3- The shift from plastic to paper is becoming increasingly prominent in the industry. What are you seeing in practice among your customers?
We are seeing a clear acceleration in plastic substitution projects, particularly in secondary and tertiary packaging.
Manufacturers are no longer simply looking to replace one material with another. They are now assessing the entire packaging life cycle and seeking alternatives that offer improved recyclability, reduced waste, and a more responsible user experience.
Paper is often seen as a natural solution, but the transition can only succeed if mechanical performance, product protection, and logistics constraints remain under control. Helping our customers achieve this balance is precisely where our expertise makes the difference.
4- How do you help your customers find the right balance between sustainability, product protection, and logistics constraints?
Our approach starts with understanding the customer’s actual needs and logistics environment.
We analyse production, transport, storage, and distribution constraints to identify the most relevant opportunities for reducing environmental impact. The objective is not simply to replace one material with another, but to optimise the entire packaging system.
Through testing, on-site analysis, and our expertise in technical paper materials, we help our customers secure their logistics flows while reducing plastic consumption, packaging weight, and the volume of waste generated. A sustainable approach only has value if it remains both efficient and economically viable.
5- CGP will be showcasing Packokraft®, Bandokraft®, and Stabulon®. Why do these solutions address today's challenges for manufacturers looking to reduce plastic use?
These three solutions perfectly reflect our philosophy : reducing environmental impact without compromising industrial efficiency.
Packokraft® provides a high-performance paper alternative that protects products while supporting recyclability objectives and reducing the use of plastic materials.
Bandokraft® offers manufacturers a paper-based bundling solution capable of replacing the plastic rings or shrink films used for multipacks, while maintaining packaging line productivity.
Stabulon® significantly reduces the use of plastic stretch film thanks to its anti-slip properties, which secure loads throughout the logistics chain.
Beyond their technical performance, these solutions respond to a growing market demand for packaging that is more circular, easier to recycle, and aligned with the plastic reduction targets set by brands and international regulations.
Our team will help you find the solution that meets your needs.
