The BIG BAG : a flexible solution for transport and storage

The BIG BAG is a flexible container, usually made of woven polypropylene. It is the intermediate solution between a bag and a bulk container for transporting and storing your powdered products. The BIG BAG’s fabric is laminated or bare. Its woven polypropylene structure is very slippery and makes the BIG BAG unstable. There are different types of BIG BAGS: flat bottom, pyjama bottom, fix-lock with or without emptying chute, etc. The BIG BAG has a small empty volume once folded.

Limitations and risks associated with the use of big bags

  • Powders or aggregates have high flow characteristics that can cause BIG BAG flexible containers to collapse.
  • The fabric of the BIG BAG is laminated or bare, its woven polypropylene structure is highly slippery and makes the BIG BAG unstable.
  • Its deformability can quickly cause the BIG BAG to slide off the pallet or, even worse, off the lorry.
  • Lifting straps are subject to high stresses and risk breaking during lifting.
  • BIG BAGS are very sensitive to defects in truck floors or wooden pallets.
