Industrial innovation and biodiversity hand in hand
Every spring, after travelling thousands of kilometres from Africa, swallows return to find a safe place to raise their young. Messengers of renewal, they announce the arrival of the warm season and remind us of the fragile link that unites humans with nature.
For several years now, some of them have found refuge… in the heart of the TCT industrial site, a subsidiary of CGP Coating Innovation.
An unexpected meeting between industry and nature
At first glance, one would not imagine swallows darting around the buildings of a production site. Yet, thanks to the installation of artificial nest boxes and a partnership with the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux (LPO), this has become reality.
Behind the noise of machines and the pulse of industry, wildlife finds its place. The swallows have settled in, reminding us that it is possible to innovate while respecting biodiversity.
Rigorous scientific monitoring in 2025
In 2025, LPO experts carried out four monitoring visits to the site. Their observations were particularly encouraging:
- 9 breeding pairs used the artificial nest boxes installed.
- 7 nest boxes occupied at the end of the season.
- Up to 15 individuals observed simultaneously in flight.
- No natural nests found, highlighting the crucial role of the installed nest boxes.
- A stable population compared to 2024, proof of continuity and safety.
These results demonstrate that the TCT site is now a safe and sustainable habitat for these migratory birds.
Why protect swallows?
Swallows are not just familiar birds: they play a key role in our ecosystems.
- Voracious insect eaters, they naturally regulate mosquito and pest populations.
- A protected species in France, they are declining due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and fewer nesting sites.
- Their presence is an indicator of environmental health: where swallows thrive, biodiversity is preserved.
Each breeding pair that chooses the TCT site is therefore a small victory for nature.
